White Knuckle Boxing

Today’s Seven Sentence Poem is bought to you by Hollywood actor and poet Joel Sappington. Read more of Joel’s work here

My city breeds
White knuckles

Five by five they march
From the
Highest pedigree
To the
Lowest strain

They smell fear
And multiply
Like rabbits.

Fists closed so tight
They become
Purple orange
Swollen
Drained
Suffocated

Crowned with
Pale militia
Waiting to shatter teeth

To throw the first punch

And this city smiles
Best believe
A shark’s
Grin
Lined with broken glass

Words,
contain in their economy,
a harmony that reaches yonder.

Beyond,
my mind, through my spirit,
deep into the far reaches of my soul.

Stirring,
naked, untarnished visions,
new creations without memory or blur.

Words, words, words.

Untarnished,
beyond the words there is,
only the Word, the one who has spoken.

I have awoken,
to words, fully alive
and forever broken upon thy word.

Kiss me again,
for I long for the alphabet of your voice,
and the kingly nature of your song…

Words.

Human Connection

This beautiful seven line poem was written by writer/painter Arna Baartz You can check out her painting on her website hereAlso follow Arna on twitter.

My new eyes fall upon hers and ribbons of every colour connect us forever.
He offers me a stick, like a gun and we blend into one, camouflaged by tree’s and fun.
His voice booms, bouncing off the walls, making my pencil quiver.
Sneaky thoughts and love notes bring blush to my cheeks.
I hold her hand like thin soft paper and whisper “You have been the world to me.”
His awkwardness, heavy with love, rests upon my shoulder, protecting me from imagined beasts and men.
He coats my lips with honey, my heart and belly pregnant with the dance of life.

Torn in Two

I am torn in two
although the halves
need not be equal.

A chain around my ankle
drags me to the corner
of a darkened room.

Enshrouded by shadows
depression swells
clanging metal chains
other tortured souls
living in the darkness
on the edge of hell.

Oh yeah I feel its pull.

But on the other hand
a promised land, calls
upwards, onwards
homeward bound, I fly
around the edge
of heaven, angels soar
and I dare to tread
towards the glorious light
whispering, calling,
no pulling, no fight.

I am torn in two…
one part dark
one part light.
But that’s okay,
it’s normal
it’s life.

The Whisper Of Time

A hidden mystery whispers sweetly across the ravines of time,
across hemispheres of history untainted by heartbreak,
nor lost in the cliches of rhyme.

Though the poet searches for words and the actor seeks to recreate,
the spotlight lingers upon an empty stage, and the heart skips a beat as it traverses,
looking for something real not imagined,
unsatisfied by imitations nor quenched by the fake.

And so I searched this world, wandering across the dirty barren earth,
down lonely city streets I lingered, listening for the whisper,
but no sound was found, nothing of worth.

And so hungry and tired, I threw myself down, upon the rock,
despondent, for if there were a whisper, it would not be found;
not by these hands, nor by these ears, it was just an ancient rumor,
an echo of truth, just a ripple in the pond.

And upon that rock I lay, unable to stand or lift a hand,
I lay down my dream of love, I gave up all hope,
I laid down every single plan.

It was only then that I heard you whisper…
for you lay upon the same rock,
and you were more than I could ever imagine, you were beyond my dreams
you were more than a whisper, you were worth the search.

And so I discovered the mystery that whispers sweetly across the ravines of time,
was not a rumor, a false hope, a fantasy or a lie, it was found upon that rock,
in the caress of your hand, in the warmth of your embrace, in the love in your eyes.

Finding Gold At The End Of A Rainbow

Where is your deepest regret, for there lies your greatest treasure?
There is no pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, although you may search you will not find.
Rainbow gold is an illusion, but real gold exists and is close at hand.
Gold is buried deep within the surface of the earth, sometimes under rocks of bitterness, or underneath a sewer of discontent.
Real treasure only brings pleasure when it is shared.
Where your heart is, there your treasure is also.
So fill your life with things you won’t regret, not the illusion of gold, but the shared treasure of living for someone else’s pleasure.
