Think big like Federer

I watched Roger Federer win the Australian Open this morning. I could watch Federer play tennis every day of the week, he is so inspirational because he’s simply so good. I heard that  he will train for four hours each morning, that in the off season he goes to Dubai and trains ridiculously hard in the heat.  It seems like he never tires of winning and he never tires of playing tennis… because he loves both things so much.

Loving being good at what you do is so important and trying to perfect your craft is vital if you want to be truly successful. Whatever you do… you can always try to discover new ways of doing it better. Enjoy exploring and live life like Federer plays tennis.

Why I love trains…

I love trains, especially in London, it doesn’t matter what your age, race, gender or class… everyone is packed into the same space.

In all honesty I could probably spend a whole month on the trains in Europe simply watching and listening to people. Their accents, their stories and their secrets all waiting to be investigated.

I guess for thirty minutes a day, in a big metropolis like London humanity is forced to collide and contend with itself.

The homeless spend a lot of time on trains in Europe. The cynic could say that it’s a great place to earn some coin (captive market) or shelter from the cold. But perhaps they love it because they get to ride with everyone else and for a small part of the day… everyone is treated the same.

Learning is forever

No matter how much you know there is always more to learn; learning I think is one of the great joys of life. Learning is synonymous growth and growth in it’s essence is very childlike. And thus is why the youngest old people you will ever meet are those who are still learning.

I realized how much I had to learn whilst standing in a queue at the train station… So much was going on around me and yet I was noticing none of it… I was trapped inside my own head.

I feel like the guy who’s always talking about making films

It’s true, I do feel like the guy who is always talking about making films and never making them. The frustrating thing is… the actual filmmaking process doesn’t actually take that long. It’s getting the money and getting the project ready for money that takes forever.

I think it is impossible to be an independent filmmaker without carrying a large amount of faith.

Even though logic may suggest otherwise something in me believes that I am going to end up shooting “Lucky & Rich” in Prague this year. Am I just deluded? I don’t think so… I could be wrong but for some reason I seem to know that it’s going to happen.

Think before hitting send

I am in a tricky situation at the moment, trying to sort out a dispute; a small disagreement which has the potential of blowing up into something much bigger. Do you ever get an email, or hear something back that fires you up? It’s really easy dwell on the perceived injustice, to flare up and hit “send” without too much as a second thought.

Once that button is pressed there is no going back.

I my situation today I heard this internal voice whisper… “go at snails pace.” Later on a similar voice “when you think you are going slow… go slower still.” Disagreements are delicate matters, in some ways it is like trying to undo a knot; the harder you tug from your end the tighter the knot becomes.

3-legged Mickey sadly passes away

Eyes that could pull you in.

The wind in his hair

Sad news in the weekend. Mickey, one of the 3-legged candidates to play Scrap in our film “Lucky & Rich” passed away suddenly. By all accounts Mickey was a true champion and loved by more than just his wonderful family. See you on the other side Mickey.
