The Fatal Mistake You Maybe Making With Your Blog

You can blog about just about anything, but are you blogging for yourself or others?

Many corporates make the mistake of constantly blogging about their own company(often surreptitiously) rather than simply using this medium to “meet the needs” of their consumers.

Many artists blog constantly about their own lives, their own creative processes or their artwork RATHER than asking exactly what it is that their audience needs.

The problem stems from introversion and greed, we all have a tendency to be obsessed with ourselves… and this is one of many fatal blogging mistakes.

The cure is to ask outward questions and listen to the stories and problems of others, allowing yourself to be emotionally and intellectually affected. Then ask the question… “what is it they really need?”

Blog creatively and blog personally, no topic is off limits when you are blogging for others.

How To Use The Internet To Sell Your Art

No body is interested in you… at least not in the way you would like them to be.

You can’t sell your art, build an audience on your blog, or sell your music online by MAKING EVERYTHING about you.

Frankly nobody is that interesting.

Your interest in me MAKES is what makes you fascinating.  In a strange sense we love because we were first loved.

This is the only way to sell anything successfully on the internet… make what you do about others.

Enrich the lives of others with your creative spirit, make art that is about them, rather than introspective self focussed sop that is impossible to sell.

7 Secrets To Kick Ass Twitter Profile

In response to yesterday’s hugely popular blog “Seven Mistakes People Are Making With Their Twitter Profiles”, here  are seven twitter profile tips to help you stand out from the crowd in this very noisy medium.

      1. If your twitter profile is for a business or a brand; use the photograph of the person who operates the account and put your logo in the corner of the image, it’s just good customer service to put a face to your business.
      2.

      3. If the above applies in the profile text say something like “John Wayne(employee’s name) deliciously tweeting on behalf of Cadbury’s Chocolate.”
      4.

      5. Furthermore, let your employee use their own personality within a set of  agreed upon guidelines; people want to connect with people, besides this way makes it more fun for your social media people.
      6.

      7. You should be able to read the text in any twitter profile at a single glance, 7-10 words only, with no #hash-tags or any other $balderdash.
      8.

      9. Choose a photo which represents the tone of your brand, the feeling you want to convey; but always use a photo of an actual person.
      10.

      11. Create a sense of mystery or tell a story with the combination of your photo, your twitter handle/name and your profile statement; this invites people to click on your website to find out more.
      12.

      13. Change it up regularly, with different photographs and profile pictures; don’t let it get boring especially if your twitter numbers are remaining static or dwindling.

7 Mistakes Not To Make With Your Twitter Profile

Twitter is a great tool for growing your audience and increasing the reach of your business, but many people are just using it plain wrong! Here are seven mistakes that I see people and organizations commonly making with their twitter profiles. Read tommorow’s blog “Seven Twitter Profile Tips.” for the solutions.

    • The use of a logo as a profile picture… BIG MISTAKE… people are naturally leery of companies and organizations, because we feel like they are trying to sell us something.

    • Way too much text in their profile, that is written as an autobiographical narrative… boring.

    • The use of the word “leading”…i.e. “I am the world’s leading cosmetologist…” subjective sales text with no personality does not encourage relationship.

    • Speaking of sales text… BIG MISTAKE… don’t try and sell me something in your profile, you wouldn’t wear a sign around your neck in every day life that says “buy one of my great wooden spoons,” so don’t do it every day life.

    • Furthermore don’t be cheesy, so many profiles are written in a way that wants to “change the world,” I’m dealing with my own stuff dude, I want a real friend and not a fake one.

    • Bad Photos… don’t use a photo that looks like it’s taken from crime watch, let people see your face or at least get a glimpse into your wonderful personality.

    • Sometimes a complete lack of creativity… okay I’m stretching to find my number 7, but this really sums up the whole problem… no “creative thought” has gone into creating your profile.

What Really Pisses Me Off About Social Media

I love social media, I really do, I’m fascinated by it.

BUT…

Nothing pisses me off more than people using the safety of the screen to hide the actual truth about who they are.

Why?

Well, because the truth will set you free AND by lying you are placing yourself in a perpetual state of anxiety.

It’s the small deceptions that hurt us the most.

We all can be guilty of this, this pretense of being bigger or more successful than we are is a sickness that affects our whole body of work.
