Why Hiding Your Sins Is Bad Social Media

Do you think you should hide or simply not disclose your past transgressions on your personal blog or corporate website?

Trying to appear holy has an uncanny way of highlighting rather than purifying your image or brand.

I guess that is because nobody trusts a hypocrite and we are all inherently frightened of a person or an organization that doesn’t walk with a limp.

Today I had the privilege of guest blogging on Lawyerology, one of the best law blogs in cyberspace and I discussed how it is actually possible to build an unshakeable online reputation.

The one thing you can’t ever do successfully online, is to simply hide the truth of who you really are. And why would you want to?

It’s your journey, and it’s both your good and the bad steps, that humanizes you and makes you more rather than less trustworthy.

Jump over to Lawyerology and join the discussion.

Why You Can’t Control The Future… Ever

What is it us that attempts to control the future or manipulate our own success?

Actually I don’t care about your answer. I just want you to stop doing it; hell, I want to stop it as well.

The ever advancing digital world is a world that can’t be controlled. You can’t regulate, order or coerce people into doing anything. There are too many roads around, over the top or underneath any firewall or fishing net you maybe creating.

Digital freedom and social media are here to stay.

Why You Don’t Need To Be A Trending Topic.

We live in the world of the “new original.” The kind of world where pop stars and celebrities are always searching for new ways to grab attention.

If you are not a trending topic then you are no where.

The trouble with trending topics is that they don’t last very long and your five minutes of fame really is just that… five minutes.

Buzz is overrated especially when there is no authenticity, brand loyalty or actual talent to back it up.

So if you are not a trending topic or a Page 3 girl, who are you?

Your lack of attention may actually be a blessing,  drawing you away from the superficial and allowing you to concentrate on things of substance.

I Don’t Want You To Read This

People don’t like to read anymore… not on screen, and not unless they are hyper-passionate about the subject they are reading. Think about this…

A computer is a screen or a viewing platform, people primarily watch and listen (as opposed to reading) when they sit in front of a computer, it is now designed to be primarily an auditory and visual experience.

On a screen people prefer to read small amounts of text, text that is immediately engaging, text that evokes images and stirs their imagination.

Have you ever wondered why people struggled to read your long winded travel blogs? Instead write a very short story, or tell it on video or illustrate it with photos.

Think about your reader, respect their time and attempt to engage with their imagination.

Seven Ways To Create Viral Blog Posts

Recently one of our Blog Posts (7 Things NOT to Worry About As You Pursue Your Dream) went viral; over two months later it is still sending 100 plus visitors to our site each day.

Seven Ways to Create Viral Blog Posts:

1. The nature  of the content must be shareable; viral blog posts must offer something of value that encourages people to share it with others.

2. The title is paramount, it needs to speak to the common guttural human urges i.e. in the case of our viral blog post “NOT to worry”.

3. The content will mostly likely be about something other than yourself.

4. Numbered Steps or Lists are finite and feel actionable to the reader.

5. Blog posts that someone may wish to print out and pin to their notice board as a “reminder” each day are more likely to go viral.

6. You need to SHARE your viral blog post over the social networks at least once a day while it is still hot, this keeps the viral buzz going for longer.

7. Look at your old blog posts, see which ones were shared the most and work out why; you can always tweak them and republish.

3 Things Essential For Social Media Success

If you want to use social media to build your business or your career then you have to invest something. For social media success you need to invest at least two of the following 3 commodities.

  • Money
  • Time
  • Creativity

If you have no money to invest in social media services then you will have to concentrate on investing your time & your creativity.  This doesn’t need to discourage you, with a creative approach there is so much you can do for zero dollars and it is almost always genuine and authentic.

If you have money but no time, then I would encourage you to sit down with a digital branding agency (check out our company here) and create a strategy that creatively and authentically reflects who you are.

And if creativity isn’t a strength, then invest your time and money by consulting with a digital branding agency, they are specialists in ensuring that your social media strategy.

If you want social media success you are going to have to invest something.
