When Following Your Dreams Drives You Crazy

Can we agree that being driven is a bad thing?

Probably not right?

What I’m talking about is that all consuming angst that often consumes the creative to the point of self-absorption and beyond.

If you think that your life will be a failure if you don’t achieve a specific goal, then in my mind you are heading down a road to hell.

It’s not really about the dream, it’s always meant to be about the dreamer.

The dreamer knows that there are many dreams, many roads, many challenges, failures and victories along the road they walk.

They are captivated not by achievement BUT instead by the process of exploration.

I have a supreme faith, or trust rather, in myself and our marriage. And I don’t mind getting totally self-absorbed. But dreaming yes. It all begins with dreaming. Sir Jolly and Lady Hoombah dream incessantly!

“They are captivated not by achievement BUT instead by the process of exploration.” Yes! I was just talking to my husband about this. I like, even love, the finished art pieces I’ve created. But, once a piece is completed my interest in it is limited. I am happiest when I am in the process. After I finish a piece, I start looking for my next “fix”, so to speak. I have multiple projects going on because I want to always have something to work on. Turns out that is a good plan, if I want to sell pieces too, because it means I get more done. I can’t imagine that if you hate the process you are truly using a gift, but instead just doing busy work.

Tell me about Geoff. I am very curious. What brought you to this place in life that compels you to assist and inspire in the ways that you now do? Where have you been in this life?

Oh Alanna, around the world, through many ups and downs. I explained to a friend yesterday that I’ve experienced much unmerited favor and unmerited poverty lol

Totally true. I’ve almost got a burn out last year because of that. I’m trying to sort things out now and feeling slightly better.
