Love The Work More Than The Dream

Why are you chasing your dream?

You must honestly, ask yourself this question. If you don’t ask “why” then you may find a giant pot of disappointment waiting for you at the end of your rainbow.

Your rainbow gold maybe an oscar, a grammy, commercial success or millions of dollars in the bank account. The truth is, all of this will mean nothing if your not chasing your dream for a different kind of reason.

What kind of reason?

Do it simply because you love it, because you feel compelled to do it, let your reward be the the satisfaction of the work itself.

I have a stack of classical guitar composition that I made out of pure love of the process, now I am finally making some videos and sharing them. Because I love doing that too.

What a lovely, thought provoking question. I’m taking voice lessons just because I enjoy singing. Just fun to do.

Very cool Donna…. Reading to my son has infinitely increased my creativity and I’m definitely not thinking of winning an oscar while doing it.

I switched my focus from acting to art exactly for the reason of loving the work more than the dream. I love acting, but I realized that I don’t want to do the work of pursuing the career, as in cattle calls, endless auditions, waiting tables, etc. I began to seriously pursue art because I just dearly love the work, the process. The end result is nice, but merely a stopping off point before diving back into the work again. I love the dream of being an actor, I still feel a twinge on Oscar night, but I love the WORK of being an artist, so that’s where live.
