Put Your Hands Over Your Ears – Dreaming 101

Dreaming 101 – People will talk smack.

Pragmatists, pessimists, AND pragmatists and pessimists pretending to be “realists” love to stand on their own little concrete ledges and curse you for your foolish faith.

In my experience they are pretty much impossible to shut up. You can’t argue with them nor can you convince them to join you, there is really one option, simply put your hands over your ears and keep on walking.

When you fall (and you will) they may laugh at you, berate you, or offer you some form of cliched sympathy that patronizes the dreamer within you to your very core.

Don’t listen to them, ignore them and keep on walking, eventually you will be so far away from them that you won’t be able to hear them any more.

Your life challenges them, they are alone on their ledge, AND the only way to save them is to keep on walking.

What if you can’t walk, what if you are caged in a small
place with such a person who is full of negativity? One needs a divine power to
gain strength to ignore them all! Peace!

Yes this is a tough place. The resistance from others is a heavy thing. If you can walk crawl? Find some time to relax to bathe in the positive… pray… and remain firm… giving in does no one any favors… You make a good point Doreen!

Ho…man! I do know this one. A lonely walk. But……. Keep moving! ‘Tis why (as you’ve so eloquently defined it), in large measure, why I’m in Nashville for 48 hours. Keep it com in’ Geoff………..! And thank you!!!

It does. Patience decreases though, replaced by a sense of urgency.

Yes, I’ve heard plenty of smack-talk from others, and yes, the only option is to ignore them and keep moving toward the dream. Those people were only jealous, stuck on their ledge, watching me realize my dream, but they’re not alone. Misery loves company, and a good smack-talking fest.

I think this is especially true in the past 15 years, since the internet has come into play. The web is full of trolls who are there to criticize and tear down someone’s work, just for the sake of criticizing it and tearing it down. These people contribute nothing to the web or, in many cases, to the world in general, do nothing creative, personal, or gutsy. They have no stake in the game, and often hide behind the anonymity that the internet offers. They have no credibility at all, and yet we can let them get the best of us sometimes. I’ve posted drawings that have gotten a lot of great, positive, constructive, and complimentary comments… and one negative one. And I will let that one negative one get the best of me and overpower all the positive feedback I’ve gotten. We all have to work on not letting that happen and using the positive people around us to help us move forward.
    IGNORE THE TROLLS!
    THEY DON’T OWN THE BRIDGE!
THEY CAN’T STOP YOU FROM MOVING FORWARD!

It’s so easy to be a critic. I’ve always hated the idea of simply being a watcher. Thanks for sharing your story Phil!
