Discover the SECRET Source Of All Inspiration

It doesn’t matter whether you like water or not, if you don’t drink it, you’ll dehydrate and die. Likewise you might not wish to drink from the source of all inspiration, but if you don’t partake of its substance, the creativity inside of you will also shrivel up and pass away.

Do these these uber-dramatic, semi-spiritual words drive you crazy?

No apologies.

You have to put gas in the tank of your car if you want to keep on driving SO you have drink from the source of all inspiration if you want to keep on creating.

Maybe this is why some artistic careers start off so brightly and then vanquish so suddenly?

If we’re truly honest, stripping away all ego, laying aside all self-platitudes, then we must admit, we are not the source of our own genius;  it comes from another place, from a voice mysteriously calling our name from the other side of the ocean.

the only thing I’ll take exception to here is the idea that there is a single source of inspiration .  I think maybe I’m interpreting it too literally, but I think an important distinction to make is that inspiration can come from any number of places.  You say it comes from “another place” and I say it can come from “any place”.  I think that the idea that inspiration is everywhere is an important one, it lets people know that they just have to be open to it and they will find it, sometimes in the most unlikely seeming places.

I don’t mean to nit pick your post over what is probably just semantics, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents on top of your own point.  Great post as always Geoff.  It’s so good to have your blog back and giving me some food for thought every day.

Hey Phil… i really appreciate your thoughts and we always love different perspectives, so please feel free to object disagree or offer something different. I guess I think of inspiration as a big river with many different streams?

OK, I get that metaphor a little better… the streams can branch out and go many different places and that’s where we draw our inspiration from.  At least that’s how I see it.  Don’t think of me as disagreeing with you on this Geoff, I know your larger point is that inspiration for creativity is something we have to get from somewhere else, it’s not this thing inside of us that we just turn on.  I like that you point out that it takes some humility to know and accept this.
