Helping Artists Use Social Media

Social Media has given great power to the artist. This power comes from the ability to engage directly with our audience. To love them and create for them in a way that has never been possible before. The giant and cumbersome marketing wheel no longer stands in the way. no longer does it block or prohibit this sacred and authentic connection.

The challenge for the artist is not to simply “learn the technology,” the challenge is remain in an authentic relationship with our audience. Using this connectivity not only to talk but to also listen. For in listening you can learn many wonderful things about the people you are creating for…

The 7 lines

Words,
contain in their economy,
a harmony that reaches yonder.

Beyond,
my mind, through my spirit,
deep into the far reaches of my soul.

Stirring,
naked, untarnished visions,
new creations without memory or blur.

Words, words, words.

Untarnished,
beyond the words there is,
only the Word, the one who has spoken.

I have awoken,
to words, fully alive
and forever broken upon thy word.

Kiss me again,
for I long for the alphabet of your voice,
and the kingly nature of your song…

Words.

Ink Weapon

Why do you write? I write because I know that there is power in words and there is transformation is story. Your pen, mac-book, laptop, desktop or i-pod is actually a weapon.

Writing is a joy to me when I stay in that pure place of love but there are many distractions, things that come in the night(metaphor) and steal away my words. How about you?

Success, money, lack of money, other peoples opinions, writing formulas and a desire to be perfect can all wage war against the beauty of your voice and the power of your words. This is why we need friends; friends who will foster and believe in your creativity… it may only take seven sentences each day.

Creating from your Soul

Today’s Seven Sentence Blog is bought to us by Lauren. You can read more of Lauren’s work by following her on twitter (click here). She is the writer of some very powerful haiku’s in only 140 characters. Comment below and partake in a discussion…

For me, creativity comes most often, when I am quiet and not intentionally thinking about anything, many times just before falling asleep or when I am resting where it is quiet and peaceful.

I think of this as coming from my soul or spirit, a place where my truth, creativity and faith lives. I have much more faith in my writings when I stay close to my soulfulness rather then when I try to create from my mind alone.

Many times it can be very challenging for me, not to go back and change what I wrote the first time, thinking I can improve something. When I change things too much, I find I end up losing the very thing that I wanted in my art.

My art loses the soulfulness, my truth, the ability to deeply touch others. These are the very things I strive for in my writings so I try very hard to get out of my own way and just allow my soul to do the talking.

Secret to Acting

Do you wanna know “The Secret to Acting?

I am supposing that you like me have a very big dream; there is this creative love inside of you longing to get out. We live in a tension between passion and frustration; great passion for the things we love, and great frustration at the difficulties we face to simply do what we love.

Good things take time but even the crap is a good and useful thing when it comes to our acting.

Maybe you believe in your bowels that you were born to act, to sing, to paint, to dance, to create; but your difficulty is constantly believing, constantly trusting, learning and growing. We are all on this journey together and Seven Sentences is a growing community of like-minded creative people who walk this journey together.

We must be patient and of good valor, risking everything, taking very little with us on this journey… be encouraged and read these seven sentence blogs below…

Our Unholy Stories – Engaging the Homeless

Life isn’t just about ourselves and our creativity, what a sad and depressing place the world would be if that were so.

A very famous modern dance teacher was asked, “what is your secret for dancing?” She replied by saying… “the secret to dancing is that is about everything other than dancing.”

If we wish to expand our creativity, if we wish to engage a different audience, if we wish to enlarge the space around us and inside of us… something has to change? We need to escape ourselves.

Holy Filth is a category of Seven Sentence Blogs that explores creativity in terms of social justice, true friendship with the poor and disenfranchised and how real faith transcends barriers both in art and in life.

As far as we know… no one else is writing this stuff, check it out below…

Holy Filth

Truly great creative work resonates across cultures; it pays no heed to social barriers, it does not raise one man up above another… why? Because it resonates.

I believe that it resonates with “holy filth,” the kind of “art” that makes as much sense to our homeless friend in the gutter on the corner of Hollywood and Vine as it does to a businessman flying first class from Cairo to London.

It’s holy filth, because “life itself” reaches into our hearts, through a wall of despair and into that dark fearful lonely place and it resonates with life. It may do this through the simple offering of laughter (comedy), or by bringing truth (drama), or through stories of courage that lead us to action…etc

To shape this type of “creative work” with our hands,  I believe we need to humble ourselves and bravely step into the spheres of humanity that frighten us most… be a friend to both the businessman from Cairo and the homeless man on the corner of Hollywood and Vine.
