January is a bad month for therapists because of the “New Years Resolution Phenomena.” As the new year begins many people currently in therapy (plus those who aren’t) make their resolutions… to be stronger, to be more dynamic, to be better human beings. In essence, we steel ourselves and “resolve” to not let the past affect us any more.
But whether you are a writer, actor or simply a student of life you understand that basic human fact… where you are from greatly affects where you are going. You can’t escape the past, it’s part of your story. Which is why February is a far better month for therapists.
Understanding the past in terms of your overall journey or narrative is an essential step in the building of character.
