Take 1

Take 1 is often the best take when you are filming a scene… why? The first take is often the best because it is the most unplanned, the most unmeasured, it is the take that is least concerned with getting it right. Because it is the first take, the actors are exploring the lines and the relationship, trying to discover and find things that matter.

Interesting the more takes a Director does, the more manipulated and constrained a performance often becomes. Very great Directors of actors like Clint Eastwood often only use one take.

I wonder if in life there are things we do just fine the first time, but for some strange reason we keep on repeating them because we are strangely dissatisfied?
