Today I hop on a plane or a train and travel to the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera. As the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano hovers over Europe I am yet to decide my exact mode of transport.
It’s an exciting time, my third Cannes film festival and I am looking forward to the now familiar terrain. What many people don’t know is that Cannes isn’t just a film festival but it is also one of the biggest film market sin the world. There are many people there buying and selling films, haggling over distribution deals etc.
You can learn more about the business of film at an event like Cannes that you would learn in three years at film school.
Normally I like to be extremely organized before I go to an event like this, but due to my very busy recent schedule I am going to have to try a different approach… I am just going to talk too as many people as possible instead.
