Goodnight you bastard cock

I write this blog with a fair amount of trepidation as I am well aware that many of my readers are animal lovers very much like myself, but today was the last day in the life of “Bad Boy Biff” the nasty black cock that attacked our rooster.

Biff was a stray rooster who was intent on two things… ending the life of our rooster Rufas and then impregnating every single one of our seven hens. Biff parked himself outside our chook house and the hens couldn’t get in or out and there was no way Biff was going to leave. Have you ever tried to catch a rooster?

Biff left us with no alternative, but this story is not about Biff, this story is about what happened to Rufas. Rufas was timid, frightened and afraid but the moment Biff’s life ended he changed, he became cocky, confident and self assured; he was more like Biff than I could ever have imagined.

It’s amazing how becoming the “top cock” can suddenly change things… even for roosters.
