Ask any great actor what really makes great acting they will invariably reply listening.
Traditionally, however we think of listening as simply something you do with your ears but it is so much more than that…
Listening could be better described as a sense of “engagement.” Typically when actors have great chemistry on screen it is really that they are “engaged” with each other; they are simply listening and here in lies the secret to building strong relationships.
It is also tempting to think of listening as a short term thing; but real engagement and trust takes place in ordinary life when people really listen to each other over a long period of time. Bad listening is pretty much a sign of a weak relationship
When I am lonely, bored and not doing well in business, I realize that it is often because I haven’t taken the time to listen.
